Rioja Summer Drinks
It’s June and the weather is warming up! It’s time for weekend outdoor parties and BBQs. An ideal opportunity for a glass of chilled white rioja! Whilst most people think “red” when you mention rioja, the region also produces some fantastic still and fizzy white and rose wine, a perfect accompaniment for the summer BBQ or pizza party.
Why not try out this recipe based on white rioja and elderflower tonic for a light and refreshing summer drink:

Blanco Blossom Spritzer
- 100ml Campo Viejo Blanco wine
- 80 ml Elderflower tonic
- 10ml (2 teaspoons) freshly squeezed lemon juice
- Lemon peel to garnish
- Ice for serving

Simply mix together in a high ball glass, add the lemon peel garnish and serve with ice.
Alternatively, if red wine is your thing, try authentic Spanish Tinto de Verano, the refreshing red wine-based drink which is consumed all over Spain in the summer months – tastes fantastic when made with a good quality rioja. We recommend the Campo Viejo Garnacha, fully of fruity flavour.
Tinto de Verano
- 1 bottle Campo Viejo Rioja Garnacha
- Lemonade
- A few oranges and lemons
- Ice for serving

Tinto de Verano is best made by the jug, for sharing. Take a large jug and fill to about one half to two-thirds with the red wine, depending on the strength you prefer, then top up with lemonade, leaving a little space for some sliced citrus fruit. Serve immediately with ice
