What’s On In Rioja
Batalla del Vino (Haro)
June 29 @ 9:00 am – 7:00 pm
Haro’s Batalla del Vino is Rioja at full volume. It’s part festival, part pilgrimage, part friendly chaos: thousands of people in white, climbing out towards the hills, then emerging (hours later) tinted purple, laughing like they’ve joined a secret club.
The beauty of it isn’t just the photos — it’s the feeling. This isn’t staged for tourists; it’s a local tradition that visitors are welcome to step into, as long as you show up with the right attitude: comfortable shoes, clothes you don’t love, and a willingness to grin when the first splash hits.
Do it right and it becomes the trip story you keep telling: the early morning movement out of town, the heat, the noise, the strange camaraderie, then the return to Haro for food, music, and the kind of tiredness you only get from a brilliant day.

Plan your visit
- Stay in Haro if you can. If not, Logroño is a good backup base.
- Wear: white + closed shoes/boots + cheap sunglasses.
- Go early: the day starts early and transport gets busy.
